The silver smith

Life does not look too rosy as expected to a kid who gradually grows from adolescence to being a youth and then to an adult. As this kid grows through the stages of infanthood to adulthood, he is challenged with several experiences which ultimately shapes him in all aspects of life.

Simply put life is a uniquely designed creation of God.

During a Sunday school class where the book of Malachi 3:3 was studied - "And he shall sit as a refiner and purifier of silver: and he shall purify the sons of Levi, and purge them as gold and silver, that they may offer unto the LORD an offering in righteousness" this having known a neighbor silver smith and wanting to have more meaning to the phrase "He will sit as a refiner and purifier of silver" went to the silver smith's shop.

In the shop he sat to watch the process of refining silver. As this kid watched the silver smith, he held a piece of silver over the fire and let it heat up.  The silver smith explained that in refining silver, one needed to hold the silver in the middle of the fire where the flames were hottest as to burn away all the impurities.  The kid thought about God holding us in such a hot spot -- then he thought again about the verse, that he sits as a refiner and purifier of silver.
He asked the silver smith if it was true that he had to sit there in front of the fire the whole time the silver was being refined.  The man answered that yes, he not only had to sit there holding the silver but he had to keep his eyes on the silver the entire time it was in the fire.  If the silver was left even a moment too long in the flames, it would be destroyed.
The kid was silent for a moment. Then he asked the silver smith, "How do you know when the silver is fully refined?" He smiled at him and answered, "Oh, that's easy--when I see my image in it."

If today you are feeling the heat of the fire due to certain challenges of life, remember that God has His eye on you and He is not going to leave you out there all by yourself. He is looking for His image in you.

Isaiah 43:2  When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and through the rivers, they shall not overflow you: when you walk through the fire, you shall not be burned; neither shall the flame kindle upon you.

Psalm 121:3,4  He will not suffer your foot to be moved: he that keeps you will not slumber. Behold, he that keeps Israel shall neither slumber nor sleep.
